Research Abstract

黄色ブドウ球菌において、DNA取り込み装置の発現条件は全く未知であった。本研究ではそれらの発現を直接制御するシグマ因子SigHの活性を詳細に調べることで、「SigHは細胞集団のごく一部でのみ活性化される」という事実を見出した。さらにそのメカニズムとして、独立した2つ、すなわち、1)sigH領域の重複による新規融合遺伝子の生成による活性化機構、および2)特定の培養条件で誘導される偶発的活性化、を見出し、さらにそれらの頻度解析や実際の分子機構の幾つかを明らかにした。
