Outline of Annual Research Achievements

下排水処理における嫌気性消化技術は、廃棄有機物を有用なエネルギー源(水素ガス等)に変換できる嫌気性微生物処理である。廃棄活性汚泥は下排水処理で排出される産業廃棄物であるが、この廃棄有機物を効果的にエネルギー源に変換することができれば、温室効果ガスの排出を抑えることができ、持続可能な社会の構築に向けて重要な一歩となる。従来から、嫌気性消化技術はクリーンな廃棄物処理として注目を浴びているものの、微生物による処理速度が遅いことがボトルネックであった。そこで本研究では、新たにナノ材料(ナノカーボンやナノ金属粒子)に着目し、反応槽にこれらのナノ材料を添加することで、嫌気性消化処理ならびにバイオガス(水素ガス)生産における反応効率化を目指した。具体的には、ナノ材料として酸化金属やナノカーボン、またそれらの混合系を用いた。これらのナノ材料添加系において、反応槽の構成や運転条件、基質組成、必須栄養素・微量栄養素などの培養条件が、嫌気性微生物菌叢や水素ガスの生成に及ぼす影響を検討した。研究初年度からひきつづき、赤鉄鉱、酸化ニッケルなどの種々の金属ナノ粒子を用いて、バッチ培養試験により効率的なバイオガス生産条件を、ナノ粒子の添加量、汚泥の熱処理、基質:バイオマス比等の培養条件を変化させることで、最適化した。また、代謝物質、分解生成有機物、酵素活性、微生物菌叢解析を実施するで、バイオガス生産に有効な水質培養条件ならびに微生物群の詮索、酵素活性評価等を行った。さらに、金属ナノ粒子とナノカーボン材料の混合系に対して試験を実施し、廃棄活性汚泥の処理効率ならびにバイオガス生産の観点から最適化されたナノ材料添加系を明らかにした。
