Outline of Annual Research Achievements

メキシコの乾燥地域において多様化の見られる、ソテツ類を材料として、その多様化機構としてニッチ保守性の重要性を明らかにすることができた。具体的には、メキシコ南部に隔離分布し、遺伝的に別種とみなすことができる、ソテツ種群、Dioon merolae を対象として、その2箇所の分布域間で、相補的なニッチモデリングを行った。その結果、これら2地域の集団には別種に相当する遺伝的な変異がみられること、さらに、それぞれの地域でその生息ニッチは極めて保守的で、安定的であることを確認した。これら2地域の間には、生息に不適な分断帯が同地域の乾燥化に伴い形成されている。本研究は、本種群のニッチが保守的であることで、このギャップを超えることができなかったことが、種分化につながったことを多面的に証明した。このようにあ、ニッチ保守性が種分化を促す可能性があることは、理論的には示されていたが、これを、野外で実証した例として重要であると考える。
本成果は、学術論文「Niche conservatism promotes speciation in cycads: the case of Dioon merolae (Zamiaceae) in Mexico」として、New Phytologist 誌 IF: 7.3 に発表されている。その他の成果についても、現在、投稿中、準備中であり、今後さらなる研究の展開を目指している。
