Outline of Annual Research Achievements

二ホウ化マグネシウム(MgB2)は2001年に日本で超伝導特性が発見された物質である。現在、いくつかの会社が1kmを越えるような線材を作製し、販売するに至っている。しかしながら、実際の超伝導マグネットや送電線として利用するためには全長で数十km級の線材が必要となる。そのような中、線材同士の超伝導接続技術は実用化のためには欠かすことの出来ない技術である。超伝導接続では超伝導線材の中の超伝導体同士において超伝導電流経路を形成する必要があり、接合界面付近は不純物や欠陥が多く存在し、電流阻害要因となっている。本研究では簡易的且つ再現性の高い超伝導接続技術開発、材料科学的に重要な界面間に超伝導電流経路を確保するためのナノスケールの組織制御による超伝導接続技術の確立、さらに種々の温度域、磁場環境下での評価技術の確立を目指す事を目的とする。
本年度は超伝導接続の新たな手法を開発した。これまでの超伝導接続部はマグネシウムとホウソの混合粉末を用いていたが、接続部にホウソとマグネシウムを別々に入れて、マグネシウムの拡散によってMgB2を形成させる手法を開発した。この手法で最適に製造された超伝導接続は、20 Kの異なる磁場でIMD線材と比較してほぼ同じ電流容量を示した。電界減衰法を使用して推定された接続部抵抗は、20 Kの自己磁場で2.01 × 10^(-13)Ωだった。この値は実用化されているMRIマグネットにおいて十分な特性であることがわかった。
