Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The co-investigator of this research project conducted ethnographic study in the newly developed Chinatown in Brooklyn, but her study was not as successful as expected. Chinese immigrants at the field site rarely speak English and Mandarin Chinese. The Chinatown is a typical ghetto fitting to natives' stereotype on immigrant enclaves. Because of the linguistic barrier, she was unable to have any meaningful conversations with the immigrants there. However, based on visual materials she collected and her ethnographic observation, she has formulated a better research design. She attended annual meetings of Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics, Academy of Management, and American Sociological Associations to collect information on her research project and interact with researchers in her field. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic of COVID-19, she had to terminate her research project in March, 2020.
