Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In the first half of the research period(2018-2019), we conducted a complementary excavation of the Shitukari-Abe Cave and a survey of the distribution of Paleolithic sites in the Shimokita Peninsula. In the former survey, the shape of the cave was investigated in detail, and the formation period and factors were identified. In the latter survey, five new caves and rock shelters were found and excavated, but no paleolithic culture layer was confirmed. In the second half of the survey period(2020-2022), the research plan was changed due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and physical and chemical analyzes such as identification of mining area of the stone materials used for the paleolithic excavated from the Shitukari-Abe Cave and the dating of the excavated animal bones were performed.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
