Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The study aims to identify psychosocial pathways contributing to dementia prevention in a large dataset of event participants and non-participants. 1) In a 2013-2016 2-point analysis, the odds ratio predicting "yes" for new social participation was significantly higher for, e.g., sports meetings, at 3.53 for the continuous participation group and 3.77 for the new participation group, compared to 1.00 for the non-participation group, and the same for participation in other new meetings. 2) The continued participation group, at 0.62, was significantly lower in depression onset than the non-participation group. 3) However, in a cross-sectional analysis of one municipality, only half of respondents continued to participate at their places of attendance on reopening after suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic. The results suggest the possibility of enriching psychosocial aspects through event participation and the importance of examining the manner of participation during the pandemic.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
