Outline of Final Research Achievements

We analyzed the GPS data of about 1 million people and clarified the basic characteristics of the flow of people in the metropolitan area. We have established a new data analysis method that captures the pattern of human flow in a metropolitan area from the perspective of drainage basins. We found universal characteristics in which the size distribution and shape of the basin do not depend on the city. It was found that the basic characteristics were maintained even under the infection of Covid-19.In addition, we constructed an electric circuit model that approximates the traffic flow in the metropolitan area by analogy that regards the human flow as an electric current, and built the foundation of a new simulation method of macroscopic human flow. In addition, we improved the basic mathematical model of infectious diseases to take into account the effects of population concentration based on GPS data, and developed a model that can predict the number of infected people.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

一人一人の移動を観測できるスマホのGPSデータからマクロな集団的な人の動きを抽出する新しい手法として流域解析を導入し、また、人流を電流とみなす独創的なアナロジーに基づいて都市の交通インフラを反映した電気回路モデルを開発した。物質の電気回路で成立することが知られている揺動散逸関係がこの仮想的な電気回路でも成立していることを見出し、人流を物理学的な視点からモデル化することの有効性を実証した。
また、基本的な感染症の数理モデルを拡張し、GPSデータを有効に使った感染症の新しいモデルを開発した。このモデルにより、いつ、どこで感染症のリスクが高くなるかを定量評価できるようになった。
