Outline of Final Research Achievements

Amorphous carbon nitride thin films prepared through RF magnetron sputtering have a unique characteristic for visible light irradiation called photoinduced deformation. This films deposited on a flexible substrate move during irradiation of a visible light. In order to reveal the mechanisms of photoinduced deformation of amorphous carbon nitride films, chemical bonding structure of the films under visible light was obtained using several spectroscopic methods such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), soft X-ray emission spectroscopy (SXES), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) at synchrotron facility.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

アモルファス窒化炭素薄膜の光誘起変形において、炭素ー炭素結合がその起源であり、窒素を添加することでより大きな変形が生じることが明らかとなった。これらの知見をもとに、炭素ー窒素結合の多いアモルファス窒化炭素薄膜を作製することで、今後、アモルファス窒化炭素薄膜を用いたスイッチやアクチュエータなどの光駆動デバイス開発が期待できる。特に、アモルファス窒化炭素薄膜は、簡便かつ大面積化が可能な方法で作製できることから、電気を一切用いずに光量に応じて開閉するブラインドなど、大型デバイスへの応用も期待できる。
