Outline of Final Research Achievements

We developed a bump-and-hole pair of cytokinin and it receptor AHK4. The synthetic cytokinin induced the expression of cytokinin-inducible genes in Arabidopsis expressing the modified AHK4, but not in wild-type plants. These data clearly demonstrates that the bump-and-hole cytokinin-AHK4 pair works in planta and will be a powerful molecular tool for cytokinin biology.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

植物ホルモン受容体の多くは冗長性をもつため、遺伝学手法だけでは解明不可能な仕組みが多々存在している。さらに、植物ホルモンがいつ・どこで受容されると対象とする生理応答が引き起こされるかは、未解明な点が多く残されている。こうした課題を解決するため、本研究ではbump-hole法を植物科学に取り入れることで、植物ホルモンの効果を細胞や器官特異的に誘起する手法を開発する。本手法は、植物科学にパラダイムシフトを起こすのみならず、農業を飛躍的に効率化する革新的技術を提供でき、幅広い分野への波及効果が期待される。
