In our current study, we conducted a risk assessment of fluorene 9-bisphenol (BHPF), an alternative bisphenol A for which no risk assessment has yet been done. We evaluated the toxicity of BHPF using guideline-based toxicity test and also examined the details of its endocrine disrupting effects using estrogen-responsive reporter mice, which we have established. As a result, we were able to identify a non-observed adverse effect level of BHPF as well as a dose range in which it can be safely used. BHPF was also detected in human blood, although not at high levels, suggesting that humans are also exposed to a certain amount of BHPF.
