| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project has aimed to construct a new interpretive model for the Parthenon sculpture, analyzing the motives of west Asian fine art: (1) fieldworks in the ancient sanctuaries and museums in Greece, Egypt and UK; (2) Discussions in the meetings of the divers field academics (art historians, historians, sculptors and painters); (3) lectures and presentations of the academicians from foreign countries; (4) the reconstructions of the ritual space represented in the center of the eastern Parthenon frieze, which was challenged by 1. the 3D reconstruction of gypsum, 2. virtual reconstruction of computer graphics, and 3. Virtual reality model made by 3D data.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本課題は、アクロポリス丘と新アクロポリス美術館において、奉納記念物群に関する独自の調査と検討を行った。オリエント由来の図像と、富裕層による奉納の分析を通じて、「アテナイ民主政」とは別の、むしろ古代文明に一般的な強調点（＝奉納文化）が基礎にあったことを解明した。東方文明と通底する、古代文明に一般の宗教観がアテナイにおいても富裕層によって支えられ維持されていたこと、そしてその宗教観は、神殿装飾にも色濃く反映していたことを指摘し、パルテノン神殿を「民主政の象徴」と見なし西洋文明のアイデンティティを想定する旧来の解釈に対して、パラダイムの再検討を提起した。
