Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、古代マヤ文明の中心都市の一つであったホンジュラスの世界遺産「コパンのマヤ遺跡」における王朝創始時期を正確に同定し、王朝創始過程を解明するための研究である。そのため本研究では、碑文に刻まれたヤシュ・クック・モによるコパン王朝創始の出来事に関する記述に関して、マヤ暦のカレンダーラウンドが52年で一周期するにも関わらず、西暦426年/427年という特定の西暦に比定されている現在のコパン王朝の創始時期に関する定説に、考古資料と理化学資料の分析で史料批判を加え、コパン王朝創始時期を解明することを目的とする。第二に、被葬者の出身地や移動の動態を明らかにする安定同位体分析や古人骨ゲノム解析の成果、コパンの南東周縁部にあたる中央ホンジュラスおよびエル・サルバドルの研究成果を取り入れて、異分野融合研究を推し進めコパン王朝創始過程を解明する。
本年度は、これまでの分析・研究結果をまとめて日本考古学協会における大会で発表するとともに、コパン王朝創始年は定説よりもカレンダーラウンドの一周期（52年）早い374/375年であったか、フナル建造物内の被葬者が王朝創始者であるヤシュ・クック・モであるという仮説が間違っているか、どちらかであるという自身の仮説に関する論考を出版した。
さらに、コロナ禍ではあったが、現地へ渡航して7号神殿の発掘調査を進めた。西側の発掘区域では、12～16代目王の時代の生贄儀礼の痕跡と思われる散乱骨が集中する区域の発掘を行い、これまで考古学的なコンテクストで発見事例のなかったタバコ入れ２個体を回収した。これは、タバコが生贄儀礼と関連して用いられたというマヤ研究における従来の仮説を補強するとともに、タバコ入れの生産地がコパンであったという点を示す始めての資料である。放射性炭素年代測定も行われ、12代目王の時代か16代目王の治世の始め頃の遺構であることが示唆された。

Reason

コロナ禍であるにもかかわらず、現地に研究拠点としてのリエゾンオフィスがあり、現地スタッフもいることで、感染者数が劇的に下がった11月～12月の期間、予定通り現地での発掘調査に従事できたため。
また、研究期間４年度目の後半にあたる２０２１年１２月に、中間報告書を英語、スペイン語の２ヵ国語版として出版できたため（下記参照）。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

この研究もいよいよ最終年度に入る。これまでの調査成果や比較資料をまとめて、インパクトファクターの高い国際雑誌に、自身の研究成果を発表・出版するとともに、2021年12月に英語、スペイン語の2ヵ国語で出版した予備調査報告を、より細かな資料提示と考察を行うことで、大幅に改定し、最終報告書として出版する。一方で、放射性炭素年代測定用の資料は多数確保済みであるため、これらの年代測定を行って、研究目的を達成できるようにする計画である。
本研究課題は、4年度目が終了した時点で、それを発展させた研究課題である基盤（S）が採択されたため、今年度で終了・廃止となることが決定した。上記の報告書に関しては、基盤（S）研究の初年度に出版する計画を継続する。放射性炭素年代測定に関しても同様に継続し、新しい研究課題の中にその成果を取り入れていく。
