Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research investigated a CEFR-based multilingual education system and its construction methods using the CEFR-J, which is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and designed for English language education in Japan. The main deliverables were a prototype of multilingual educational language resources such as vocabulary, expressions and constructions corresponding to a set of CAN-DO lists by CEFR-J levels, tools used in this process and a multilingual corpus for educational use. This has enabled the development of a set of basic materials useful for constructing CEFR-compliant foreign language syllabuses, researching teaching materials, developing tests, creating e-learning content, etc., and creating a relatively homogeneous foreign language teaching system for any foreign language.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

現在、世界中でいろいろな言語が学ばれていますが、外国語教育のシステムは国・地域ごとにバラバラで品質はよくありません。ヨーロッパ言語共通参照枠を使用した一貫した教育システムは、ヨーロッパの言語以外では応用が難しいのが現状でした。それをできるだけいろいろな言語に普及させるために必要なCan Doリスト一式とそれに紐付く語彙・表現などのデータベースを整備して、言語教育用資料の作成方法を提唱したものです。これにより、多くの外国語教育システムが品質管理をよりよくできるようになることが期待されます。
