Outline of Annual Research Achievements

今年度は、単分子接合の構造、電子状態、界面構造を決定する新しい計測法の開発および、単分子接合に機械的応力を与えた際の熱起電力の変調について主に研究を展開した。
まず単分子接合の表面増強ラマン(SERS)と電流-電圧特性(I-V)の同時計測を行う新しい計測法を完成させた。ベンゼンジチオール(BDT)、アミノベンゼンチオール(ABT)に適用することで、これまで不可能であった単分子の吸着構造の決定、分離、そして吸着構造の時間変化を捉えることに初めて成功した。実験結果と理論計算を組み合わせることで、カップリングの大きい順にbridge, hollow, atopであることが決定できた。さらに電極間電圧による吸着サイトの変化を検討した。その結果、BDT, ABTともに低バイアスではbridgeが主成分であるが、バイアスを上げるにつれてhollowサイトに移り変わっている様子が観測された。
また分子の熱起電力の電極間距離依存性を精密に計測することで、分子ごとの個性を反映した熱起電力の応答性を計測することに成功した。用いた分子は、ジアミノブタン(DAB),ビピリジンBPY、フラーレン(C60),ヘリセンである。単分子の熱起電力は走査型トンネル顕微鏡を用いて、探針と基板間に温度差を与えながら単分子接合の電流―電圧特性(I-V)を測定することで決定した。すべての系で熱起電力が負であり、伝導軌道がLUMOであることが分かった。応力を与えながら、熱起電力の変化を計測したところ、DAB, BPY, ヘリセンでは押し込むと熱起電力が減少したが、C60は押し込むことで熱起電力が増大することが分かった。熱起電力の変化の方向は、伝導軌道であるLUMOが押し込まれることで、軌道エネルギーが変化することによって説明することができた。
