Outline of Annual Research Achievements

これまで，岩石―水反応のような不均一反応系は高度な非線形性をもつため，反応経路の解析には緻密な分析を必要としていた．そこで，研究代表者は昨年度に開発した水熱反応の反応速度解析アルゴリズムに着想を得て，本年度は機械学習的アプローチにより水熱反応の反応経路を自動的に選び出す手法を開発した．この手法は，反応経路の全組み合わせに対する逆解析を行い，Widely-applicable Bayesian Information Criterionと呼ばれるベイズ自由エネルギーの近似量を計算することで，反応経路を選び出すものである．さまざまなケースでのベンチマークテストを行った結果，数が少なくノイズが大きいようなデータからは正しい反応経路を選ぶことが難しい反面，数が多くノイズが少ないデータからはほとんどの場合で正しい反応経路を選ぶことができるとわかった．この手法を用いることで，解析が難しい非線形現象を簡単に解釈できることが期待される．これらの研究成果は，The European Physics Journalに受理され，掲載された．
また，これらの研究と並行して岩石試料の地球化学的解析を行い，海洋底に露出しているマントル岩石の変質プロセスの解読を試みた．小笠原海溝から採取した蛇紋岩のいくつかは破砕されて角礫化されており，炭酸塩でセメントされている．地球化学的分析・解析から，炭酸塩はマントル岩石を循環する古海水から析出したことがわかった．更に，古海水は0.1-0.01m/sの速度で最大３０年循環していたことがわかった．一方で，推定された寿命は，大西洋における蛇紋岩熱水湧水系より遥かに短い（>30,000年）．これらの結果は，生命の餌となる可能性があるマントル由来の流体が間欠的に供給されている可能性を示唆している．これらの結果は，論文としてまとめ，現在査読中である．
