Outline of Annual Research Achievements

異常エッチングスハウゼン効果(AEE)の原理解明および高い熱電変換性能を有する材料の探索を行うために、異なる組成・磁気特性を有する1-5系サマリウムコバルト磁石(SmCo5)に対して300 K~600 KにおけるAEEの系統的な温度依存性の測定を行った。AEEとは、強磁性金属において磁化および電流の両方に直交した方向に熱流が生じる現象である。近年、様々な材料系に対してAEEやその相反現象である異常ネルンスト効果の研究が行われており、我々は2019年にSmCo5系磁石が室温で大きなAEEを示すことを明らかにした[A. Miura, et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 115, 222403 (2019).]。また、SmCo5系磁石は大きな残留磁化も有しているため、残留磁化を持たない軟磁性体とは異なり、AEEを発現させるために外部磁場を印加する必要がないという特長を有する。永久磁石を用いたAEEに基づく熱電変換は、永久磁石の大きな残留磁化が高温(SmCo5系磁石の場合は400℃程度)まで保持されるため幅広い温度域で無磁場下において使用可能である。室温におけるSmCo5系磁石のAEEは組成・磁気特性・微細構造に依存しないが、高温におけるAEEの組成・磁気特性依存性を明らかにすることは重要である。
本研究では、300 K~600 KでのSmCo5および(SmGd)Co5におけるAEEを観測した。ともにAEEは温度に対して単調増加したが、SmCo5のAEEは(SmGd)Co5より大きな値を示した。また、磁化と横熱電効果の間のスケーリング則に従わないことを示した。一方で、AEEにおけるZTも温度に対して単調増加し、SmCo5においては500 K以上でZT > 0.001を示した。この値は大きな横熱電効果を示す磁性ホイスラー合金Co2MnGaよりも大きな値である。
