Outline of Annual Research Achievements

プラズマと生成・加速用電極との直接相互作用なく推力生成が可能な、無電極プラズマ加速法が提案されている。本研究課題ではその一つの回転磁場(Rotating Magnetic Field: RMF)プラズマ加速法の原理実証、およびこの加速効果を最大化させる運転パラメータ導出を実験的に行うものである。外部アンテナによりプラズマ内部に周方向電流を駆動し、外部発散磁場の径方向成分に起因する軸方向ローレンツ力によりプラズマを加速させる。この提案加速法の推進性能が実用化レベルを達成すれば、従来電気推進機に見られる電極損耗による寿命制限、性能低減の問題を根本から解決し、長期的宇宙ミッション遂行にも貢献可能と考える。
採用第2年目では、RMF加速効果のRMF回転周波数の依存性調査を行った。採用1年目同様にRMF時間変動成分の時空間分布を計測し、RMFのプラズマ中への浸透評価と合わせて、電磁加速力を比較・評価し、電磁加速に最適なRMF周波数の存在を示唆した。計測したRMF磁場の時空間分布において、プラズマ中心部の磁場分布構造に位相遅れがみられ、各時間フェーズごとに磁場浸透,電磁加速効果およびプラズマ生成効果の検討必要性の知見も得られた。
また、RMF法の加速力増強に向けてRMF印加電流値増大を図った。従来最大電流値を1.5倍に増加させて駆動したところ、RMF周波数条件によるが、高いイオン流速および電子密度の空間的増加がえられた。更なる印加電流の増大による加速加速効果の増大を今後検討していく。さらに、RMF法単体によるプラズマ放電が可能な運転条件も得られ、RMF由来の電磁加速とプラズマ生成の両立した新規スラスタシステムも検討していく。
