Outline of Annual Research Achievements

三重項-三重項消滅に基づくフォトン・アップコンバージョン (TTA-UC) は、低エネルギーの光子を高エネルギーの光子に変換する方法論である。本研究では一重項-三重項遷移 (S-T遷移) を示す Os 錯体を三重項増感剤として用いて、近赤外光から可視光への TTA-UC の高効率化を目指している。しかしながら、 S-T 遷移を示す Os 錯体は励起状態の寿命が短く、三重項エネルギー移動 (TET) を効率的に起こせないという問題がある。
一昨年度から昨年度にかけては、 Os 錯体に対し長寿命な励起状態を示すペリレンを連結させ、分子内 TET に基づく励起三重項 (T1) 状態の長寿命化を行った。その結果、有機溶媒中での励起状態の寿命が約120倍となった。しかし、連結後の錯体においてペリレン部位のりん光が確認され、 Os の重原子効果に由来するペリレン部位の励起状態の短寿命化が示唆された。
本年度は、色素連結型の Os 錯体を設計する上で重原子効果の制御が重要であるという考えの下、フェニレン架橋における置換位置の影響を評価した。ペリレンを導入するフェニレン架橋上の置換位置をパラ位からメタ位に変えたところ、錯体全体の励起状態が約3倍長寿命化した。この結果は、メタ位で連結した錯体の方が T1 状態のスピン密度に対する Os の電子密度の寄与が小さいという量子化学計算結果と対応しており、色素連結型の錯体における架橋構造の重要性が明らかとなった。以上の知見は、今後の長寿命な励起状態を示す三重項増感剤の設計に活かされ、フォトン・アップコンバージョンの更なる展開に資するものと期待される。
