Outline of Annual Research Achievements

当該年度は、貝化石の放射性炭素濃度測定とGlacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA)モデル、Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR)データを組み合わせた研究により、考古学的な研究で提唱されているトンガタプ島における約3000年前の海水準変動に伴う環境変動を定量的に明らかにすることが出来た。
一方、トンガ王国で鍾乳石に対する走査型超伝導量子干渉素子(SQUID)顕微鏡を用いた古地磁気・岩石磁気測定の適用に取り組んだ。加えて、交番磁場勾配磁力計(Alternating Gradient force Magnetometer: AGM)を用いたFirst-Order Reversal Curve(FORC)測定、Magnetic Property Measurement System(MPMS)による低温磁気測定、等温残留磁化(Isothermal Remanent Magnetization: IRM)獲得実験を行った。その結果、肉眼観察で見られる明灰色と暗灰色の堆積構造の差異をサブミリスケールで磁気マッピングすることに成功した(世界3例目)。これら磁気的・視覚的に明瞭な鍾乳石中の堆積構造の違いは、表層部の堆積環境が酸化的に変化したことにより、この変化は更新世から完新世の間に火山噴火や人間活動に伴う被覆土壌の酸性化により発生した可能性を示唆した。
また、これらのテーマはそれぞれ国際誌に受理されたほか、これらの研究を基に博士論文を執筆し、2021年3月に学位を取得した。
