Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project is a research on the processes of the formation of British nationalism and the people's interest in national characters through examining the visual representations of the European continent in the works of female authors in the first half of the nineteenth century. This study includes authors such as the Bronte sisters, who had actual experience of studying in Brussels, as well as writers like Jane Austen, who is inferred to have been interested in the European continent through her writings despite her lack of experience of going there. The research also involves extensive analyses of relevant literature, such as travel writings by women writers of the same period.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
