Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The main purpose of this research was to gather oral history data from Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors who were old enough to have “narrative memories” not only of their atomic bombing experiences, but also of prewar, wartime, and postwar Japanese life in general. Toward this end, the cooperation of various Hidankyo branches and also several public institutions was secured for introducing subjects willing to participate in recorded interviews. By the completion of the project, some 37 hibakusha interviews lasting from 2 to up to 5 hours in length were recorded, and their contents were later confirmed by crossreferencing with primary and secondary source historical material.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
