Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study focuses on the Yasuni-ITT Initiative, in which the Republic of Ecuador sought international compensations for leaving the crude oil underground, and analyzes it from the framework of anthropological theories of gift-giving and fetishism so as to identify its potential.
We argue that the Initiative is better understood as an "alienation of inalienables", which repeats the primordial gift-giving from Nature, and that with its muti-layered and multiple estimation of the value of the keeping the crude underground it could embody the partial connections between Gift and Market, South and North, and Nature and Society.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
