Outline of Annual Research Achievements

カナダにおいて在外研究の機会を得たため、下記のとおり、在外研究中に、関連しての以下の２つの学会報告を行った。ヨーク大学で行われたカナダ政治学会では、「Understanding the Role of Candidates’ Visual Information - Application of Conjoint Analyses and Eye Tracking Techniques」というタイトルで報告を行い、候補者選択のためのコンジョイント分析における情報提示フォーマットの違いが有権者の注目する点にどのような影響を与えるのかをアイトラッキング により確認した。顔写真があるかないかというフォーマットの違いは注視している点の違いをわずかに生み、またフォーマットの違いにより候補者の政党所属の効果は異なったことを報告した。また、Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity
で行われたプレ入り―政治学会では「What Have Students Learned from Voting? Lowering the Voting Age in Japan & the Unintended Consequences of a Culture of Obedience」
という報告を行った。日本の学生は必ずしも政治への意欲が高くない一方で、親や教師への指示には従順に従うため、その投票率は驚くほど高い。このため、政治参加の効果を確認するのに非常に良いサンプルとなっている。高校生が政治参加することにより、政治一般への関心等は向上しないが、自分の投票した選挙区に対する知識水準の向上や自分の選挙区の将来を考える意識の上昇という影響が見られるということがわかった。このような報告を行った。

Reason

本年はカナダで在外研究の機会を得たが、在外研究前に撮影していた動画を在外研究中に実験素材として加工する予定であった。しかしながら、カナダで利用できた機材の性能不足もあり、予定通りには進行しなかった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今年は最終年になるため、カナダ政治学会、日本政治学会の二つの学会での報告をすでに承認されている。この機会を通じて論文を作成する予定である。また、前年作成が遅れていた動画素材を編集する能力の高い機材が存在するため、これを利用して前年の積み残していた課題を終える。
