Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Happiness is determined by both macro-level factors such as GDP, as well as micro-level factors such as demographics and personal achievements. In this project, we used data from many countries including Japan to identify the determinants of happiness in the following four categories: International comparison of happiness, happiness in Japan, work and happiness, and Covid-19 and happiness. Our results clearly show that income inequality and social insurance system are significant sources of happiness at the macro-level. Our micro-level studies focused on happiness in the area of work in Japan and uncovered factors which lower happiness and productivity. We propose a cyclical framework which shows that high happiness leads to high productivity which leads to less work hours which leads to higher happiness.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
