| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to examine cultural activities targeting children at Asahi Kaikan, a general cultural facility located in Nakanoshima, Osaka, from 1926 to 1962. The research was conducted by researchers in the genres of music, movies, paintings, Russian picture books, and magazines, all of which were published in the Asahi Kaikan Kodomo no Kai's journal "Asahi Kaikan Kodomo no Hon" (Asahi Kaikan Children’s Book). As a result, it became clear that the Asahi Kaikan made the project for children, with particular emphasis on the social contribution aspect of the Asahi Shimbun's welfare program, and that it was developed with "hobby education" in mind, targeting children from families "above petit-bourgeois" in the Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe area.

具体的な場「朝日会館」と、そこに集う人々をつなぐ雑誌『アサヒカイカン コドモの本』また「アサヒカイカン コドモの会」「アサヒ コドモアテネ」によるネットワークは、学校教育とは違い、自分の興味関心から結び付く主体性を伴うものである。雑誌の内容と朝日会館での各活動には、循環構造が構築されていた。このことから、昭和初期より社会福祉事業として始まったメディアが主導し志向した教育活動は、「趣味教育」をキーワードに、学校教育とは違ったつながりを生み出し、一つの教育コミュニティーを創り出していたことが明らかになった。これは、現代における、学校外コミュニティ形成とその意義に示唆を与えるものである。
