Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have developed several new quantum algorithms for the accurate quantum chemical calculations of open shell molecules on quantum computers: A quantum algorithm to determine spin quantum number of arbitrary wave functions on quantum computers, a quantum algorithm to eliminate unwanted spin components from the spin contaminated wave functions, and a quantum algorithm to directly calculate the spin state energy gaps without inspecting total energies of individual electronic states. These results open a door to applications of quantum computers to real problems in electron spin science and open shell chemistry.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、一般的な分子よりも複雑な電子構造を持ち、その電子状態の解明に高精度量子化学計算が重要な役割を果たす開殻分子について、量子コンピュータを用いて量子化学計算を効率的に実行するための新規量子アルゴリズム開発を行った。開殻分子は生体内の酵素活性中心や化学反応中間体などに現れる重要な化学種であり、その電子構造解明は非常に重要な課題である。本研究を通して開発した量子アルゴリズムは、開殻分子の電子構造を特徴付ける量子数であるスピン量子数や交換相互作用パラメータを効率的に決定することを可能にし、開殻分子の高精度量子化学計算を量子コンピュータ上で効率的に実行するための道筋を示すものであるといえる。
