Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Low-temperature plasma has been studied for medical applications. We had focused on the plasma cancer treatments, and we have previously invented plasma-activated solutions. In this study, we used plasma-activated medium (PAM) and plasma-activated Ringer’s lactate solution (PAL) for plasma cancer treatments. We found that PAM induced oxidative stress-dependent cell death on glioblastoma brain tumor cells while PAL induced oxidative stress-independent cell death on glioblastoma cells. These results suggest that plasma-activated solutions might be useful for cancer drug resistant cancer therapy.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
近年、低温プラズマの医療応用研究が盛んに行われてきており、低温プラズマによるがん治療は最も魅力的かつ挑戦的な研究分野として世界中の多くの研究者が携わっている。低温プラズマを直接がんに照射するのみならず、低温プラズマを照射した溶液(プラズマ活性溶液)を用いたがん治療法を我々は提案した。本研究で我々は更に様々なプラズマ活性によるがん細胞の細胞死の機構を調べ、プラズマ活性溶液ごとにその機構が異なることを突き止めた。本成果により将来プラズマ活性溶液が抗癌剤に耐性を有するがん治療にも適用できるようになるかもしれない。
