Outline of Final Research Achievements

Different kinds of turbulence coexist in anisotropic turbulence that has broadband spectrum. Driving mechanism of the coexistence is quantitatively investigated especially from the viewpoint of energy transfer in transition wavenumber range. The wavenumber ranges of the internal gravity waves and eddies in stratified turbulence are identified by time scales and proportion of energies. Local energy-flux vector in anisotropic turbulence is proposed based on two ansatzes: net locality and least-action principle. The local energy-flux vectors in rotation turbulence and quasi-geostrophic turbulence successfully show the energy fluxes predicted by the weak turbulence theory and critical balance.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

非等方性を持つ多くの流体乱流において、大規模構造・波動・渦が共存することが知られている。これらの間の遷移波数領域のエネルギー輸送は、臨界平衡という定性的な予想はあったが、それを定量的に確認する方法がなかった。本課題では、非等方エネルギーフラックスを定量的に評価する方法として局所エネルギーフラックスベクトルを提案し、準地衡流乱流で臨界平衡を定量的に確認した。このことは、非等方性乱流に共通した未解決問題であった遷移波数領域のエネルギーフラックスを求め、異種乱流の共存状態の生成維持機構を明らかにすることを可能にした。
