Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In Japan, which is facing an aging society, the development of minimally invasive medical care with less burden on patients is strongly desired. We have succeeded in synthesis and characterization of sugar-conjugated photo sensitizers having tumor targeting ability for photodynamic therapy which might be available for next-generation advanced medical care.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
我が国では、高齢化社会の進展に伴い、癌患者数が増加の一途を辿っており、低侵襲性の、QOL の低下を招かない癌治療が切望されている。光線力学療法 (Photodynamic Therapy: PDT)とは、癌細胞内部に光感受性物質を集積させ、これに特定波長の光線を照射し、それにより惹起する活性酸素で癌細胞を選択的に破壊する治療法である。本研究では PDT 用の新規光増感剤を開発した。それらの機能評価の結果、次世代先端医療用としての実用展開が期待される高性能な化合物であることが明らかとなり、極めて意義深い結果が得られた。
