Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We uncovered genetic regulation system for controlling fruit color pigmentation of cultivated strawberry (Fragaria×ananassa Duch.). Firstly, we identified chromosome locations on which previously detected QTLs for fruit color pigmentation were located. Secondly, we performed RNA-seq analysis and revealed that one of the anthocyanin synthesis genes, Flavanone 3-hydroxylase (F3H) is a most major factor to control fruit color pigmentation of cultivated strawberry.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
栽培イチゴの果実色は消費者の目を引く重要な育種対象形質である。福岡県で育成した「福岡S6号(商標名:あまおう)」は鮮やかな濃赤色の果実色が特徴の品種であり、市場の評価も高く他品種よりも高価格で取引されている。しかしながら、イチゴの果実色に関する染色体領域を明らかにした知見は少なく、その遺伝的制御の仕組みに関しては明らかになっていない。「一般消費者の購買意欲に影響する果実色を決めるのはどのような遺伝子なのか?」という問いは、学術的意義とともに、極めて社会的意義の大きな課題である。
