Outline of Final Research Achievements

To understand the pathogen-mediated regulatory mechanism of stomatal density in gentian plants infected by Septoria gentinae, a filamentous fungus that invades plant tissues through stomata, we performed the screening of fungal virulence effectors involved in the regulation of host stomatal density. Genome and transcriptome analyses identified 146 effector candidates (Candidate Secreted Effector Proteins : CSEPs) of S. gentinae. Of the CSEPs, at least CSEP49 promoted stomatal formation in gentian.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
