Outline of Final Research Achievements

Nociceptive neurons in the trigeminal spinal tract nucleus (Vc), which are excited by light stimuli, have been shown to be triggered by the excitation of retinal ganglion cells (melanopsin cells) containing melanopsin.
In addition, sensitization of Vc neurons by dural inflammation increased light avoidance behavior and increased excitability of Vc neurons by light stimulation. These results suggest that Vc excitation triggered by melanopsin cell activation is one of the factors that encode "dazzle.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
