Outline of Final Research Achievements

The inovative method of intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring in neurosurgical operation was designed. We succeeded to find typical reaction in free-running electromyogram of facial muscle during acoustic neurinoma resection surgery. On the other hand, we could not develop the animal experimental model to evaluate the relationship between typical change of free-running of electromyogram and anatomical change of damaged neuron.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

術中電気生理モニタリングは神経の機能を全身麻酔下で確認する唯一の方法である。誘発電位で検査をすることが一般的だが、誘発電位検査を行うためには病変をまたいだ刺激と記録が必要で、臨床手術においては施行できないことがある。自発筋電図は、障害を早期に発見できる手法である反面、特異的な変化が見つけにくい欠点がある。今回の研究では自発筋電図での特徴的な波形変化をとらえることに成功した。今後、この手法を術中に活用することで、モニタリングをより有効に利用できるようになることが目標である。
