Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examined whether the immune-related molecule OX40 could be a molecular target for glioma treatment. Expression of the OX40 ligand protein was observed in glioma-derived cancer stem cells. However, OX40 was not detected. In glioma lesions, cancer cells expressed OX40 ligand. These results suggest that OX40 ligand may be a potential therapeutic target for glioma.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
膠芽腫はあらゆる年齢に発生し、原発性脳腫瘍で最も多い腫瘍である。平均生存期間は約1年の難治性腫瘍のひとつである。近年、がん治療において免疫治療の有効性が証明されている。我々は、膠芽腫に対する免疫治療を開発するため、がん幹細胞株を樹立した。本研究成果は、治療の分子標的を提唱した。
