Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study is clarifying the correlation between the toxicity and physicochemical character of the particle. The target particle is “cross-linked water-soluble acrylic polymer”. To consider the relation, at first, the generation of respirable particles from some commercially available polymers and their shape and chemical composition were measured, and also water absorption ability. Then one of those was selected, 5-days inhalation exposure study was performed. 3 days and 1 month after the exposure, rats were sacrificed and some indexes were measured. The body and lung weights and the histopathological changes were not greatly changed. But the neutrophil count and the cytokine CINC-2 in BALF were significantly increased after 3 days compared with control. But returned to normal after 1 month. This time, the "acute" inhalation may lead the small amount in lung and small reaction. Therefore, long-term inhalation study were needed to clarify the toxicity of the particle.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
労働現場で使用、開発されている化学物質の有害性と物理化学的特性との関係を明らかにするため、本研究では、2017年に労災認定された「架橋型アクリル酸系水溶性高分子化合物」について検討を試みた。この物質は、現物の入手が困難であっため、同様の膨潤、ゲル化の性質を持つ高吸水性ポリマーについて、その物理化学的特性を明らかにし、さらに短期吸入曝露試験を行い、その有害性を検討した。その結果、BALF中好中球やサイトカインの有意な上昇が認められたが、さらなる吸入曝露試験が必要と考えられた。その有害性と物理化学的特性との関係がわかれば、他の物質についても効率的に生体影響を予測でき、労災の減少につながると考える。
