The results also highlighted the importance of paying attention to the children’s view that their intentions are respected.
The medical professionals understood the children’s and parents’ wavering feelings, and supported their decision-making process, while experiencing psychological conflicts themselves.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
治療困難な小児がんの子どもをもつ親や支援する医療者は、死に対する心構えの難しさ、治療やケアの中断への意思決定について困難感があった。さらに親や医療者は子どもへ真実を伝えることの難しさや親が子どもの代理意思決定を行う困難さを抱えていた。子どもの治癒が望めないと告げられてから親が治療断念および在宅移行を意思決定することは困難な課題ではある。しかし少しでも後悔の少ない意思決定を親も医療者も望んでおり、親が最終選択に至るまでのプロセスにおいて医療者とのかかわりが基盤であり、闘病過程における親と医療者との関係性が親の意思決定に与える影響は大きく親と子どものQOLを高める支援となりうる。
