Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research aimed to develop methods for predicting the spread of various types of content on social media and future trends. The main research outcomes include: 1) Predicting the spread of fake news on Twitter (Murayama et al., PLoS ONE, 2021); 2) Predictng page viewing trends on Wikipedia (Kobayashi et al., ICWSM 2021), and 3) Analyzing Twitter data to understand the evolution of public opinion on COVID-19 vaccination in Japan (Kobayashi et al., JMIR 2022).

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で得られたフェークニュース拡散を再現する数理モデル (Murayama et al. PLoS ONE, 2021) は、フェイクニュースへの対策を考えるためのシミュレーションモデルに活用されることが期待される。また、 新型コロナワクチンについての人々の興味・関心の変化を調査した研究成果 (Kobayashi et al. JMIR 2022; 武富ら 人工知能学会誌 2024) は、次のパンデミックが起きた際の公衆衛生の指針に役立てることが期待される。
