Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I have published two articles. One of the articles entitled, "Betwixt the Acts": Entr'acte Entertainment on the London Stage, 1660-1700, published in Gakujutsu Kenkyu, is a survey of entr'acte entertainment during the Restoration period. The article argued that there is little evidence to suggest entr'acte entertainment was as prevalent a feature on the Restoration stage as previously believed. It moreover suggests that the development of entr'acte entertainment was limited during this period. The other article entitled Joseph Haines and Tray the Dog, is published in Notes and Queries. It details the hitherto seemingly overlooked relationship between one of the most prominent comedians of the Restoration period, Joseph Haines, and a dog named Tray.

Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I have made plans to conduct archival research in the UK this year.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I am currently writing about the history of entr'acte entertainment from 1700 to 1737. I am also writing about the use of animals on stage during the Restoration period.
