In this study, we focused on joint attention in order to reduce the risk of digital applications for children on the social cognitive development. We developed a non-contact system for objectively estimating the direction of gaze between parents and infants, and used it to conduct a multidimensional analysis of the gaze interaction between parents and children when using digital applications.
A comparison of Japanese and English parent-infant data revealed different gaze patterns between the two groups, indicating that the influence of digital applications is not universal.
