| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
A number of studies have used photographs or videos of faces and reported diminished responses to such stimuli in individuals with ASD, in contrast to TD individuals. Live faces, however, have an impact. The present study investigated responses to live eye contact faces in individuals with ASD. Individuals with ASD, as well as typically developing individuals, showed increased attention to eye contact during a live, face-to-face interaction.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
これまでの写真呈示による研究では、自閉症者では「見られない」とされてきた特徴を、より日常場面に近い状態のライブ呈示（実際の人物との対面）によって示すことができた。対面相手のアイコンタクトに対して注意が高まることは、日常生活での円滑な対人コミュニケーションの一歩に重要である。ライブ呈示により、自閉症者においてもこの特徴が「見られる」ことは、自閉症児の療育のあり方や日常生活での関わり方にも活かせる可能性がある。
