| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between young people's attitudes toward the future and their mental health. In order to achieve this goal, an experience sampling method (a method of collecting data repeatedly over a short period of time) was used at multiple time points. Statistical analysis revealed that while young people who routinely feel secure in their future plans have a higher sense of life satisfaction and happiness, the opposite is true for those who feel anxious, and few young people routinely feel secure in their future plans. Furthermore, awareness of the future was related to interpersonal relationships and other life events. The results of this study show that daily awareness of the future is strongly associated with mental health, and the life events that promote this association were identified.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
これまで、若者の将来の意識と精神的健康の関連は、１年に１度の調査に基づいて検討されてきた。しかし、１年に１度では、その間にどのような意識の変化が起きているのか明確でないこと、その変化の理由について明確でないという限界がある。それに対して、本研究では毎日調査を行うことで将来への意識と日常的な精神的健康の関係を精緻に明らかにした。この結果は、若者の精神的健康が将来への意識と強く関連していることを明らかにした点で学術的意義がある。また、将来への意識とライフイベントが精神的健康に及ぼす影響を明らかにしたことで、その支援のための方策を考案する上でのエビデンスを提供したことに社会的意義がある。
