Outline of Final Research Achievements

We carried out terahertz time domain spectroscopy Ge2Sb2Te5 phase change films. In the sample preparation, the sample was annealed at different temperature. It was found that both index of reflection and dielectric function enhance with increasing annealing temperature. Base on the results, we proposed terahertz modulation and terahertz plasmonic device applications. For practical applications, we studied optical and electrical phase change schemes.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまでに報告されているテラヘルツ波デバイスは一度作製すると後から特性を変化させることは困難であるが、相変化材料を用いることで目的に応じて繰り返し特性を変化させることが可能となる。制御手法が確立できれば実用上の大きなメリットとなる。また、不揮発メモリの効果や書き換え可能性を用いることでこれまでに提案されていない新たな応用が可能になる可能性を秘めており、意義のある研究である。また、本研究によりこれまであまり明らかとなっていなかった相変化材料とテラヘルツ波の相互作用を解明することができ、相変化材料研究の立場からも意義のある結果を得ることができた。
