Outline of Final Research Achievements

Empirical data to descrive attitudes of Japanese healthcare professionals and lay people towards surrogate decision making on best interest standard were acquired by conducting interview and questionnaire surveys. Researches have been behind schedules. Substantive acheievements such as academic papers and conference presentation will be reported after data analysis and discussions.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

無縁社会や孤独死といった社会問題は医療現場における代行判断の負担を深刻化させる。具体的には、身寄りのない患者の医療・ケアを担当する医療職がその生死に関する意思決定の責任を負うことになる。本研究はそのような代行判断が実質的根拠に基づいて実施されるための倫理的知見を獲得するために立案され、大規模アンケート調査等をとおして多くの実証データを収集した。今後にデータ解析と考察をすすめ、最善の利益基準に関する概念の明確化につながり、医療現場における健全な代行判断を支援するための実質的な成果報告を最終的に行うことで本研究の学術的そして社会的意義を確保する。
