Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aimed to clarify the structure of nursing practice to elicit consent from lightly sedated mechanically ventilated patients. Participant observation and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 nurses working in Intensive Care Unit or Emergency Care Unit. The result of the interviews were analyzed using the modified grounded theory approach. Fifteen concepts were generated, and three subcategories and three categories of nursing practices were clarified. Nursing practice that elicits consent is to successfully achieve the goal while using the patient's strength without discouraging the patient's motivation toward the goal that the nurse draws out the thoughts, hopes, and expectations of the patient.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
