Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Balen'kii et al. found that during a quick arm raising movement in the standing position, muscle activity in the biceps femoris muscle occurs prior to the raising movement. Such postural muscle activity that precedes the primary movement is considered anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs). At first, we checked for gender differences in APAs, and found gender differences in the location and timing of APAs in the subjects in this study. Next, we examined whether the presence or absence of a lower limb orthosis in healthy male subjects causes changes in APAs, and found that the frequency of APAs increased in the ipsilateral erector spinae when both lower limbs were fitted with a long-limb orthosis.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
