| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Trying to merging film studies and cognitive psychology, this study examined viewers attention during seeing movies. This study inquired the relationship between film directors' expressions and viewers trajectories of attention during watching movies by using eye tracking device. And this study also historicized the research of viewers' attention within the history of film studies. This study summarized that this kind of research started with Hugo Munsterberg in 1916 and developed by David Bordwell in the 1980s with his cognitive approach. Then some film scholars began to utilize eye tracker from the 2000s to reconfirming what film directors practiced for a long decade.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の意義は、映画学と認知心理学を融合した新しい研究分野を日本で開拓した点にある。本研究は映画監督やスタッフが長年の経験で洗練させてきた表現技法や編集技法の有効性や特徴を、アイトラッカーを使って実証的に検証することができた。本研究ではまだ初歩段階の検証に過ぎないが、今後の共同研究によってより説得力のある議論を蓄積できるだろう。もうひとつの意義は、本研究を通じて、映画研究における観客の注意や視線誘導に関する技法を映画研究史的な視点から振り返った点である。このことによって1916年のミュンスタ―バーグによる議論から現在まで、常に映画における注意の議論が重要な論点になってきたことが確認できた。
