Outline of Final Research Achievements

I examined the adaptive significances of floral traits responding to the behaviour of ants. I found that the floral traits have evolved responding these traits of ants.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

花形質の進化は、送粉者によって形作られてきた。これが、今現在のパラダイムである。アリの影響はほとんど無視されている。本申請課題の研究成果は、花形質の進化は、アリによる妨害への対策と、送粉者による送受粉の促進という両面で形作られたという可能性に発展するものである。そして、本研究の成果により、花形質の進化の研究は、アリ・送粉者の相互作用を常に考慮する方向へと転換するであろう。それにより、植物の繁殖戦略の研究が新たな方向へと進んでいくことが期待される。
