Outline of Final Research Achievements

A treatment method for regenerating and repairing degenerative cartilage in osteoarthritis has not been established, and there is no technique for identifying pathological changes of degenerative cartilage at an extremely early phase. In this study, we succeeded in identifying changes in the molecular composition of the extra-cellular matrix of cartilage by performing Raman spectroscopic analysis on the specimens removed in total knee replacement.
We also create a prototype of the device to be mounted on an arthroscope for surgery, based on that system. We plan to apply these devices clinically in the future.

これらの技術が完成することにより、これまで捉えることのできなかった、軟骨変性の質的評価が可能になり、また未だ確立されていない軟骨再生医療の発展と
軟骨再生の過程を評価に寄与することができる。
