Outline of Annual Research Achievements

ITERの中性粒子ビーム入射加熱に用いたれるRF負イオン源開発において、ビーム集束性が問題となっている。この問題を解決するために、RF負イオン源を開発してきたドイツと、直流放電負イオン源のビームをプラズマ加熱に実用化した実績を持つ日本の共同研究を計画したものである。本研究の計画は、COVID-19の影響を受けて、ドイツのマックスプランク研究所で行う予定であった実験を変更し、日本国内の核融合科学研究所のNIFS-NBTS装置で、負イオンビームの集束性にRF電磁場の与える影響を調べる実験を行った。
その結果、イオン源内のRF電磁場は、ビーム引出し界面を振動させることにより、負イオンビームの集束性を劣化させる可能性があることが明らかとなった。また、このビーム幅の振動を抑えるためには、RFの周波数を下げること、及びメニスカスの対称性を改善することが重要であることを示した。
2023年度は、これまでの実験を基に新たなビーム集束性の外部制御の可能性について、検討を行い、特許申請を行った。その後、実験結果をまとめ、学術誌へ投稿中である。
また、メニスカスの外部摂動への応答を実験的に評価することにより、実質的にメニスカスの硬さの評価していることに着想し、これを用いて、負イオンシースの形成メカニズムを解明する手法を発見し、日本物理学会で報告した。

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

本研究は、COVID-19の影響で、ドイツで行う予定であった実験を日本国内で行うことに変更したため、その準備に時間がかかり、研究計画に遅れが生じてしまった。計画変更後に行った実験は成功し、負イオンビームの集束性の劣化の原因特定と改善策を提示することができた。この成果をさらに発展させることにより、負イオンビーム集束性を外部制御するアイデアを具体化することができたため、論文投稿前に、特許申請を行うことにした。そのため、論文投稿が遅れることになった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

現在は、本研究で行った実験結果の主要部については、現在論文投稿中であり、2024年度内に論文掲載を目指している。また、これらの研究を学会等で幅広く発信し、成果をさらに発展させる研究計画の構築に向けて、幅広い議論を展開する計画である。
